Know your cubic footage—not just floor space. A 10x10 unit with 8-foot ceilings gives you 800 cubic feet of space. Stack items vertically to get the most out of your unit.
Climate controlled storage protects more than antiques. Electronics, photos, leather, wood furniture, documents, and cosmetics are all sensitive to heat and humidity. Climate control helps prevent warping, mold, and deterioration.
A 5x5 unit holds more than you think. Roughly the size of a walk-in closet, a 5x5 unit can store seasonal decorations, several boxes, small furniture, or business files—around 200 cubic feet.
Stack with strategy. Place heavier items and boxes on the bottom and lighter, fragile ones on top. Use same-size boxes for more stable stacking and to avoid tipping.
Use furniture as storage. Dressers, cabinets, and appliances can double as packing space. Store linens, small boxes, or books inside drawers or shelves.
Leave a center aisle for access. If you’ll need to retrieve items later, leave a narrow walkway down the middle so you can reach the back without unloading everything.
Don’t store items against the walls. Leave a few inches of space between your items and the walls of the unit to improve airflow and reduce the chance of moisture buildup.
Label every side of your boxes. Labeling all four sides means you can identify contents no matter how boxes are stacked or turned—no digging required.
Keep seasonal items near the front. Store frequently used or seasonal items like holiday décor or winter gear where you can access them quickly.
Climate controlled units are cleaner and more secure Indoor climate controlled storage is less prone to dust, pests, and extreme temperature swings, making it ideal for long-term or sensitive storage.
